Sue’s exhibit “No Love In The Wild” (brought to us by Bikini.com) was truly one of my favourite visual events during Basel. Colours and strong women make me happy, and Miss Tsai knows just how to incorporate the perfect amount of the two to bring us truly amazing, thought provoking pieces. With her works being recognized by some of our cultures biggest stars to date, (Rihanna, Swizz Beats, Wale…just to name a few) its no wonder she has risen to popularity and grabbed the hearts of so many in such a short amount of time.
I met Sue last year during Basel but we never truly connected until my most recent trip to Toronto for the OVO festival. We had so many mutual friends it was a shock that we hadn’t been having sleepovers & face timing for years already. Sue is a natural beauty with loads of positive vibes and work ethic, it was a match made in young queen heaven. We ran into each other in NY back in September when I threw a party with Travis at 1 Oak and briefly brainstormed doing something together for Basel this year. Three months and a slew of emails later, Bikini.com & Austin Mills were down for the cause and our event had been planned. The all white midtown penthouse was dawned with Sue’s most famed colourful pieces (aside from my personal favourite, the portrait of the ever so sweet “Fuck Love I’m Paid” goddess crying her infamous dollar bill signs AKA me in paint form) and gave the attendees a priceless view of the city I call home. The event was very exclusive and only included tastemakers/ art collectors that seemed to all know one another, an element that goes quite well with an open bar and steady jams.
Beautiful ladies were there modelling some of Bikini.com’s VERY cool (and sexy) suits & there was even a pop up shop upstairs with exclusive merchandise decorated with sues colourful paintings. I fell in love with the phone case, which is now my favourite accessory, and purchased every pillow there was before realizing that I should probably allow the rest of the partygoers some merchandise to purchase as well and made my way back downstairs to the bar. I had to step out earlier than I would have liked to for dinner, but I hear the rest of the party went extremely well & that Sue sold a few of her best pieces. Bravo to her. What a boss!
Stay on the look out for Sue’s collaboration with Wale “Exhibit About Nothing” now through January in NY & her work with Swizz for his Dean Collection at the Scope Art Show in NY come March. More info can be found at www.SueTsai.com
